Nepal Himalayan Festival in Manchester, 5th
& 6th June 2004
The 3rd. Nepal Himalayan Festival will take place
in central Manchester on the weekend of 5 6 June 2004. Organized
by the Nepalese Association in the UK and hosted by Manchester City
Council in the beautiful Town Hall, the festival will feature talks,
delicious Nepalese food, arts and artifacts from Nepal as well as information
for trekkers, climbers, backpackers, gap year students and eco-tourists.
The event, which is free admission aside from a
small charge for the headline lecture, will be opened by the Royal Nepalese
Ambassador. Members of the public will be able to learn all about the
unique kingdom, nestled among the worlds highest mountains, which
holds a special place in the hearts of all its visitors.
Mountaineering talks are scheduled to be given
by the first British man to reach the summit of Everest, Doug Scott,
amongst others and the lecture programme will cover subjects including
ecology, botany, textiles, Buddhism, volunteering opportunities, childrens
rights and Nepalese art.
Radio presenter and hill-walking enthusiast Mike
Harding, who has appeared at previous festivals, says: I once
heard it said that we are not here to change the Himalayas they
are here to change us. If you go to Nepal with an open heart and an
open mind, you will find the spirit of the country and the people reaching
into you, and you will never be the same again. It isnt something
you can buy, and it isnt something you will even know is happening;
but the beauty and the spirituality of the people and the mountains
will change you if you are willing to be changed.
"I am confident this third festival will, like its
predecessors be a showcase for Nepals culture arts crafts and
cuisine and contribute significantly to project Nepal as an important
tourist destination."
Prabal S.J.B. Rana: Royal Nepalese Ambassador
