14th June - 13.00 Barmouth. Hannah takes the lead and is first over the line at the start of the 2002 race


Barmouth - Saturday midday
The race begins and 15 teams take on the daunting task of sailing to Caernarfon, Whitehaven and Fort William taking in the three highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland.

Hannah, the Royal Marines entry made an excellent with the other Reflex Clipper, Lightning Reflex right on her tail. Here is a selection of images from todays start.

Dave Bird runs Midnight Getaway alongside tha camera boat. Dave was a member of the winning team in 2000.

Estrelita is following the fleet although she is not taking part in the race. she is taking the ashes of Bob Peart to be scattered on the summits of Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis. Bob was a great runner and his ashes are being carried by his fellow team members from the 1988 race.


ESOX waits for repairs after her engine failed as she motored to the start line.
The team hope to rejoin the race with the 11.30 tide tonight.
