Simply Red achieved their ambition
to win the Tilman Trophy, taking the title in dramatic
style on the Ben Nevis run.
When the team arrived at Corpach on
the outskirts of Fort William they were in 4th place overall
and 2 hours and 9 minutes behind Thunderchild in the Tilman
Trophy competition. But their final pair of runners, Ross
Cattell and David Mitchell, still felt they were in with
a chance and made a strong push on the climb up the mountain.
They gained 90 minutes on Tony Jiggens
and Les Crampton from Thunderchild by the time they got
to the snow capped summit, but it wasn't until they reached
the foot of the mountain that they passed them, taking
3rd place and the coveted Tilman Trophy.
The only consolation for Thunderchild
was that they held onto 4th place overall and second in
the Tilman Trophy, finishing just one minute ahead of
