Regular
updates on the established BlueDome Expedition
Web site.
The freelance travel
reporter Matthew Brace has guaranteed his
support - and has agreed to travel to Australia,
meeting us on route to write articles to
be placed in the nationals e.g. The Independent,
and some travel magazines. There has been
initial interest shown by several documentary
companies. A logistics person will be left
in Britain there will also be someone working
full time to look after any potential PR
opportunity during the expedition targeting
the above outlets.
Media to confirm prior
to departure in both UK and Australia;
NBC - Selina Scott
National TV
Cable TV
Satellite TV
National Press
Relevant Trade press to Sponsors
National Radio
Specialist Disability media outlets incorporating
TV, Press and Radio.
Adelaide - Start
of the Walk
Initial discussions
have been made with ABC TV in Adelaide for
the use of a study equipped with ISDN for
Live interviews between Australia and Great
Britain. This will allow approaches to be
made to the entire major national and international
TV and Radio Channels, along with some of
the local stations.
There will be appearances
and interviews set up for the local and
National Press TV and Radio, of Australia.
In order to increase
the media appeal for the beginning of the
walk, we are arranging for one of our patrons
to be there to see us off, and perhaps have
a small group of walkers that will walk
to the edge of the town.
Birdsville-half
way point
This will be the halfway
point and will be a good opportunity to
rekindle the interest in the expedition.
We will have walked through some of the
most barren deserts in the world by then,
having some great footage, pictures and
sound bites for radio. With many stories
and different angles to these stories we
will undoubtedly attract media support.
It will be here that we invite our strong
supporters from the UK to research promised
articles.
Darwin and the
end of the walk.
Although by Birdsville
we will have crossed some of the most dangerous
parts of the worldís surface, there
are still lots in store on the way to Darwin.
Racing against time before the rains begin
avoiding the crocks, and still battling
with the reluctance of our own bodies to
carry on.
As with Adelaide initial
discussions have been made with ABC TV to
set up an ISDN line in order that live interviews
may be conducted between Australia and UK,
for radio and TV.
Then further information will be given to
Matthew Brace, our Web site and any of the
trade press you have asked for in particular.
On our Return
At this point an effort will be
made to complete the production of the documentary,
write up the book as quickly as possible,
in the hope of coinciding both for maximum
publicity.
Photo Opportunities
There will be photo opportunities
before we leave for Australia in both the
Local and National Media, when we are training
near Adelaide. Most of the spectacular photographs
being provided during the walk itself, including
camels, deserts and wild life.
MEDIA - coverage
to date
The expedition is to be filmed by and shown
by ABC in Australia that will consist of
a five part documentary, each part being
half an hour, in all 2.5 hours. A similar
deal is being negotiated with BBC in England.
Australian Geographic secured the as sponsor.
Camels will be used as immediate support
for the walkerís entire journey enabling
greater self-sufficiency.
The support team is
confirmed as Sam Rutherford and Dan
& Karen Trotter, veteran explorers and
film crew who will travel in a 4x4 vehicle.
