Venture Trust works with people experiencing complicated life circumstances. Through the provision of wilderness-based personal and social development programmes, we equip them with the confidence, motivation and core life skills that they need to make positive changes in their lives.

We currently have an exciting and rare vacancy for a Senior Development Trainer (SDT) to lead one of our wilderness journey teams, based in Stirling and delivering progressive personal development journeys for participants from across Scotland.

The SDT is responsible to the Operations Resource Manager for ensuring the safe and effective planning and delivery of personal development wilderness experiences, including review and quality assurance of all activities, projects and expeditions in accordance with our Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs), risk assessments and health and safety legislation. The successful candidate will be required to lead a team of Development Trainers to supervise participants throughout their wilderness journey, delivering one-to-one and group work sessions focusing on areas such as wellbeing, personal development, consequential thinking and goal setting. The successful candidate will also lead on the maintenance, checking and monitoring of kit and equipment relevant to all operations.

Applicants must hold a minimum of four valid and relevant qualifications of recognised unit status, such as Summer ML, Single Pitch Award and Level 2 Canoe Coach training, plus a recognised First Aid Certificate. Knowledge of current Health & Safety law, outdoor activity licensing best practice, and procedures relevant to wilderness outdoor work and experience of working with disadvantaged people in a wilderness, urban or residential setting, is also essential. In addition, applicants must have the ability to lead a team effectively, setting appropriate professional standards for others and to deliver personal development programmes confidently and safely. Undertaking operation of recording systems, checking vehicles and outdoor equipment, and a driving licence (D1+E) are also essential requirements of this role.

Ideal candidates will have a 4 star Canoe Leader with moderate water endorsement, and a Winter ML or equivalent. They will be an APIOL holder or working towards this. A degree in a relevant subject is considered desirable, as is formal training or certification in Choice Theory/Reality Therapy or another theory of psychological growth and development.

We offer a range of generous benefits including 28 days annual leave (fixed into periods of downtime), learning and development opportunities including two dedicated training weeks throughout the year, and a workplace pension with 3% employer contributions.

Venture Trust is committed to promoting equality and diversity in employment, and follows an equal opportunities policy.
