Action Adventure Activities – Volunteer Trainee Scheme

Start Date - May 2017
End Date - Monday 2nd October 2017

For 2017 we are recruiting candidates for our Volunteer Trainee Scheme. Candidates will receive training in many of the activities we provide as well as gaining several NGB qualifications.

The Qualification and Courses included are:
First Aid – REC 2 Day
FSRT- British Canoeing
BC 2*. – British Canoeing
BC Level 1 Coach - British Canoeing
3* Canoe – British Canoeing
3* Whitewater Kayak – British Canoeing
Whitewater Safety & Rescue – British Canoeing
SUP Module – British Canoeing

10 QMD’s towards Summer ML Training – Mountain Leader Training Association
SPA Training - Mountain Leader Training Association
Registration & Course fees are included.

Other training will include: Sphereing, Target Sports, 4x4 Driving (for those with a full driving licence), Canyoning, Paddle Boarding, Archery, Air Rifle & Pistol Shooting, Risk Assessments & Activity Logistics / Equipment Maintenance & Record Keeping. Map Reading, Navigation Skills & Hill walking including climbing local Munros.

There will be several overnight Expeditions some hillwalking & some canoe/kayak trips.

Candidates must provide references and complete our application pack & must be a minimum age of 18 at the start of the course. Some previous experience of outdoor activities is preferred, but most importantly an enthusiasm to learn and to work in the outdoor industry.

As candidates progress through training and NGB awards they will assist, & lead sessions under supervision with our activities. Candidates that show good instructing ability may have the opportunity to lead many of the activities we offer - a great asset to the CV of any aspiring instructor!

We operate our course on a Volunteer Trainee basis. Over the season we have allocated over 50 days purely for NGB training & assessments. Your normal fortnight would consist of 3 days training per fortnight, 3 days off per fortnight and the remaining days of each week spent assisting with activities and helping us with developing our centre. . This will include helping in the construction of new activities facilities, gardening & landscaping, general labouring, painting, miscellaneous DIY tasks etc.

Some uniform is provided and a kit list will be provided showing the minimum outdoor equipment that a trainee must have.

Trainees will be mentored by our Senior Instructor staff.

On completion of the course candidates will be ready to confidently move on to a career in the outdoors.

Accommodation is shared in large static caravans on a co-ed basis. All meals are provided.
