Dinghy Sailing Instructors
Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre is recruiting Lead Dinghy instructors to compliment it’s already, dynamic and enthusiastic professional full-time team.
Applicants should be motivated and dynamic outdoor educators who are passionate about delivering sail training to all ages and ability levels at the Centre.
Applicants must hold a minimum of their RYA Dinghy Instructor Award and they must also be motivated towards their own personal development in their own or other activity areas.
The Centre is renowned for the high quality staff team it employs, trains and develops. The Centre recruits a seasonal staff team each year to cater for the busy and varied activity program it offers, with sailing being no exception.
The Centre is non-residential, which for many, offers a more attractive environment in which to work. In the main staff work from Monday-Friday, however, there is limited evening & weekend work, though this is shared equally amongst all staff at the Centre. Time off is allocated for any sessions worked during evenings or weekends.
All this means is, personal time is your own time and this time can be spent very much how you like. Regardless of this, the Centre prides itself on having a social and fun loving team who thrive on teamwork which not only ensures the Centre operates effectively and efficiently, it also offers employees other opportunities to gain new skills and improve your existing talents.
The Centre utilises 2 sailing locations, these being the Centres local introductory sailing venue of the River Exe, using Toppers and also the Centres Estuary sailing location on the Exe Estuary from Starcross Yacht Club, using Laser Pico’s, Laser Stratos and Drascombe Longboats.
Instructors will work with groups of all ages and ability levels. Weekdays in the main cater for Juniors and Young Sailors aged 8-18 years old, both on introductory and progressive 4-6 week courses. These groups work towards Youth Sailing Scheme Awards and National Sailing Awards.
Adult courses take place during the weekdays, evenings and weekends. These courses include introductions, through to RYA National Awards. Evening Courses are also provided for young people, adult and family groups.
Haven Banks has a continued commitment towards every aspect of outdoor and adventurous activities delivery, as well as ensuring its staff are fully trained, qualified and experienced to deliver these activities.
Several training opportunities will be available during the season to improve skill levels and gain further National Governing Body Qualifications as well as optional evening & weekend staff training trips both in and out of County.
Positions hold an initial contracted time of May – September, though extensions are commonly offered for contracts from April – November
Qualifications:
Essential - RYA Dinghy Instructor (Preferred RYA Senior Instructor), RYA Level 2 Powerboat Coastal (Preferred RYA Safety boat).
Desirable, though not essential – RYA Dinghy Senior Instructor, Full Clean driving licence, other NGB Coaching Award(s) applicable to the Centres activities.
