Venture Centre Cook 2008 - March – October

Minimum of 35 hours week

To prepare and serve meals to groups of young people and adults staying at our outdoor activity centre.

The position involves the extremely rewarding job of devising wholesome, healthy well balanced menus for groups of young people and adults visiting our centre.

Ordering supplies at cost effective prices and managing stocks.
Most groups visit us for a Monday – Friday period

The job involves preparing serving the following.

Breakfast usually served on 2 sittings between 8.00 and 9.00 a.m.

Prepare packed lunches ready for the groups at midday.

Prepare and serve evening meal usually served around 5.00 – 6.00 pm.

Minimum number of persons resident will be the staff team of approx 12 persons. Maximum number resident will be around 80 persons with occasionally 100 persons.
There is some weekend work mainly around June / July period.

The cook needs to ensure that when we have no groups resident there is food for the resident staff to prepare their own meals on a rota basis.

We usually keep things straightforward by sticking to a set menu offering a choice if people have special dietary requirements.

We are looking for basic food from a cook who can maintain good standards of hygiene and be capable of working with a young dynamic staff team who may not be from a catering background.

It is important for us that the applicant can work within the staff team and interact with visiting group leaders and young people in a positive manner. This usually involves liasing with group leaders and children on arrival with regard to any special dietary requirements that may be required. Due to the fact that we specialise in holidays for young people the applicant will be expected to undergo a police check and we would prefer a non smoker.

We are located in a unique rural setting so the position would be suitable for a person who enjoys the outdoor environment.

We also have excellent opportunities for you to become involved in a wide range of outdoor pursuits if you wish such as dinghy sailing, sea kayaking, climbing, mountain biking etc.

We will be running interviews for this position in February with an anticipated start date of 1st March but we could leave this to as late as 28th March if required. We would prefer the cook to stay with us until 12th October but if required a leaving date at the end of August could be negotiated.
