After what seems
like a lifetime of sanding her down
'Festina' is now starting to look
like her old self. Some of the wear
and tear is still showing but I feel
that she deserves to keep some of
her character.

The original bronze
fittings were still looking dull after
using tins of metal polish and hours
of rubbing. Professional help was
called in in the form of a local metal
polishing company. The bronzes now
look superb, some kind of protection
is needed as they tarnish very quickly,
so a couple of coats of lacquer will
be used before they are refitted.
'Festina' has
had two coats of Intertox to help
protect her from freshwater infections.
The outer hull, when we get her turned
over will get the same treatment.
A coat of 'Schooner' diluted 50/50
with thinners was painted on and rubbed
back. This was followed by a second
coat thinned 20%. The third coat will
go on at 10% dilution and then another
four or five coats of unthinned varnish
will be used.
