The original condition, just a few
trial areas were sanded to see what
problems may be encountered.

After a couple of weeks (evenings
and weekends) the original woodwork
is starting to be visible. I am probably
the largest consumer of sandpaper
in Northern Britain!!

Two mahogany friction strips have
been fitted either side of the centre,
the side bouyancy tanks are showing
the holes where the Holt-Allen seals
have been removed for cleaning.

A little rub down with white spirit
shows the rich colour of the marine
ply tops and friction strips. I have
no plans to turn 'Festina' into a
museum standard exhibit, I want her
to look good but she is meant for
sailing.

The bronze forestay reveals a little
bit of rot and some of the original
colour. Previous varnish has been
applied with a trowel in places.

I have not sanded out all of the 'patina'
that 'Festina' has collected over
the years. I hope that she will benefit
from having a little of her character
left showing.
