What I am now
the very proud owner of is a boat
designed by one of the champions of
modern sailing, Uffa Fox. I wish there
was a link to a good web site about
him but there does not appear to be
one (Let me know if you can find one.).
I am starting to get some history
about both the boat itself, the class
and its designer but I would like
to know more.
With thanks to
Ed Bremner, founder of the Classic
and Vintage Sailing Dinghy Association
I have a bit more information, he
owns one. The boats were built by
Fairey Marine, my boat was built in
1953 which makes her one year younger
than myself. L.O.A. is 18 feet and
she is very slim, I am told she is
only four feet wide at the waterline.
Mainsail, furling jib and a spinnaker
make up the sails. She appears to
be about 95% original but I am not
sure about the self draining slots
in theTransom.
Wooden mast and
lots of bits of brass and Tuffnel,
the trailer looks like it might have
carried a Merlin at some stage. One
small professional repair to the hull
looks very old and very well executed.
Two dagger boards and the original
rudder complete the rig.
If you can throw
any more light on the background to
the boat I would be very pleased to
hear from you. (bluedome@airtime.co.uk)

As work is started
to bring 'Festina', which is the name
on her receipt, back to her original
condition I will add more pages and
pictures. The hope is to have her
sailing before December.
