Snugpak Cyclone Soft Shell Jacket

The Snugpak Cyclone has been on the shop rails for a little while now but this has been the first chance we have had to wear the jacket and have a closer look.

Since producing this review the Cyclone jacket has had a lot of wear. It has stood up to good amount of rain and not let me down. The large zip pockets and the smaller zipped breast pocket have also made the Cyclone my first choice for travelling by air, all my documents can be safely zipped away.

Apart from great tailoring, the fit is fantastic, the finish and attention to detail make the Cyclone one of the best finished jackets we have seen in any price bracket. One great aspect is that the sleeves are cut so that they do not feel as if they are too tight. I have several jackets from other manufacturers and for some reason the sleeves are way too narrow, not a problem with the Cyclone.

The fabric has a great feel, it has some stretch and works well. We had to postpone our outdoor testing until the British heat wave had passed and we got into proper summer weather with showers and sunny intervals. It stood up to some heavy downpours and we stayed dry. Although the jacket is not designed as a full on shell it bounced off the wind and did not get too hot when the sun made at the odd appearance.

The jacket has four pockets, two waist pockets with full zips, the pockets included have a micro fleece lining. The breast pocket takes my smart phone easily. There is also a large inner pocket. The zips are good quality and the main jacket zip has an internal storm flap to keep the worst, of the weather out. On the inside is a large flap pocket which will take a small tablet such as an iPad mini. The cuffs are finished off with very neat velcro faced tabs, not too big and not too small. The neck and collar are again well designed and keep out the worst of the conditions.

The Cyclone come in sizes from XS to XXL, it also is availble in Black and in Olive.

In use the Cyclone is a real gem. If I lost it I would go and buy another one!

I have used Snugpak sleeping bags and clothing for years in place such as the Lake District the lowlands and highlands of Scotland and all the way to Canada and Alaska. The gear has always been good but Snugpak just keep getting better. To produce this jacket to this standard and have it in the shops for around £129.00 is brilliant, a browse around will find it cheaper than the list price.
