Fieldwork expeditions in remote, wilderness environments
British Schools Exploring Society (BSES)
The British Schools Exploring Society is a youth development charity that organises inspirational and challenging expeditions for 16-25 year-olds to remote, wild environments in jungle, desert, mountain and arctic regions.
Expeditions range from two weeks to two months, where explorers carry out fieldwork projects centred around climate change, biodiversity and human interaction with the environment.
On our expedition you will develop your confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and spirit of adventure. It is a true experience of a lifetime.
Founded in 1932 by Sir George Murray Levick, a member of Captain Scott’s final Antarctic Expedition of 1910-13, BSES is the longest running and most experienced youth organisation of its kind, and this year we will be celebrating our 80th anniversary.

Quotes
What our Explorers, Patrons and Parents say...
“BSES offers an expedition that encompasses a lot more than most. The experiences I had were hugely diverse and of course exciting. Most of all, what make theexpedition special is that I came out of the expedition feeling completely different both to how I entered it, and to how I expected to feel after leaving Peru”
Ben Ingledow, Young Explorer on Peruvian Amazon Expedition, 2011

"BSES gives those young people with a dream the chance to explore some of the world's most remote regions. With that exploration, I have found, so often comes a sense of pride and achievement - and that is the real magic of BSES. It builds the champions and explorer of the future"
Bear Grylls, British explorer
More from Our Patrons
“I really honestly think that BSES was the making of Harry. You'll be delighted to know that although it's already been 5 weeks from his return trip, Harry's motivation and enthusiasm hasn't stopped! He just has this enormous energy for life now and appears to be going from strength to strength.”
Message from Harry’s mother, Michaela Hudson, Peruvian Amazon Expedition, 2011
