Bracken Tor House (YHA Bracken Tor)
Bracken Tor was originally an Arts and Crafts movement house built around 1908 on the edge of Dartmoor above Okehampton. It was acquired by Adventure Okehampton in 2006, and has been fully converted to a residential centre. We retained as many of the original features as new regulations for hotels/hostels would permit, including the traditional windows, wood panelling and the fireplaces. The main living room room has the original wood panelling and double aspect corner windows that provide the unique design of the house. This provides an area which functions as a meeting room, TV lounge and relaxation area. A separate dining room is accessed from outside. There are seven bedrooms accommodating 38 people, some of these rooms are en-suite, other rooms have a toilet/shower-room adjacent on the landing. On the ground floor there is one bedroom with wheelchair access along with disabled toilet and washing facilities. Full commercial kitchen allows full catering service to be offered. Small Self-catering Kitchen and Dining Area. Drying Room
Car parking for up to 6 vehicles (Small car park at the bottom of the drive).
This Centre is smoking free zone and all residential groups are expected to respect this ruling.
There is a resident warden adjacent to this site.
Set in 4 acres of grounds with bushcraft area, volleyball area, grass play area and direct access onto the moors, this is a great site for any group.
The Filter House (YHA Bracken Tor)
The filter house is a former South-West Water treatment works and was converted in 2008 to create an accommodation unit with 2 8 bedded dorms and two single staff rooms. Downstairs there is a combined dining/sitting area and a self catering kitchen. It has clean and dirty entrances and easy to clean floors making it perfect for small groups training on or exploring Dartmoor. This unique building is loved by all who stay here for both it's comfort and obvious environmental consideration in its design. Shared Car Park facilities with the main house at Bracken Tor. There is a resident warden adjacent to this site. Set in 1 acres of grounds with campfire area and direct access onto the moors, this is a great site for any group.
