Programme Aims
This programme is designed around the skills and experience needed to become an instructor in the leisure industry and to widen your experience base in adventurous activities. Entry Requirements
To gain entry onto this programme you will need to be 18 or over and have intermediate skills in at least two different activities from the following areas, Kayaking/Canoeing, Climbing,
Hill Walking and Sailing/Power boating. Instructing experience is also desirable although not essential for entry onto the course.
Commitment and enthusiasm are essential. Focused and motivated individuals will excel on this programme and will be prepared to gain careers in the outdoor industry..
Entrance to the course is by practical interview, and will be subject to receipt of satisfactory references. Previous qualifications and experience will be taken into consideration.
Course Structure
The course runs for a total of three months and it is envisaged that participants enrol for that entire period to gain maximum opportunity for skills development. There is also the option for week blocks of modular based training and qualification delivery. This is a good option for those people already in the industry who may want to develop specific activity areas.
This course provides training in a wide range of personal and organisational skills that are relevant throughout the leisure industry. The programme employs a combination of learning methods – lectures, group discussions, individual assignments, leisure industry visits, skills instruction and work based learning. You will have the opportunity to undertake training and assessment under a wide range of National Governing Body (NGB) award schemes and you will also gain a wealth of experience across activities passed on by our highly qualified and professional team of instructors.

You will learn and develop skills in the following adventurous activities: canoeing, kayaking, climbing, caving, sailing, power boating, sea and surf kayaking, general safety, soft skills, leadership skills and camp craft. This dynamic programme includes experience in a wide range of different environments predominantly based in the South West of England.
Assessment
Your progress and final qualification is assessed through competence assessments and observation. National Governing Body Qualifications will be offered to all course members providing all the pre-requirements needed for the course have been met.
Progression This programme allows access to intermediate positions within the outdoor industry.
Cost for full three month course - £2,250.00
Cost for modular week blocks - £250.00 per week
Costs are inclusive of all training and tuition, Mini-bus transport and off-site accommodation when used.
The course fees do not cover National Governing Body membership/registration fees which is a predicted cost of around £300.00 depending on courses you enrol on.
