Introduction to Rock Climbing

This weekend gives you the chance to learn all of the basic climbing skills in a practical and safe way under the direct supervision of our expert instructors. You will cover basic rope work, equipment selection and most importantly get the chance to climb on some of Devon’s beautiful crags. We’ll go bouldering, top-roping and abseiling - we guarantee you will do lots of climbing!

This weekend gives you the chance to learn all the basic skills needed to explore our fantastic moorland environment. Measuring distance, taking bearings and using a compass.
The prefect course to equip you with the skills needed to explore the moors with confidence.
Let our instructors take you through every aspect of basic navigation from symbols, scales and grid references to ground shape.

Single Pitch Award Training (SPA)

A two day course although we have added an extra day for even more value! The Course is aimed at those who wish to lead groups in rock climbing and abseiling on single pitch crags. The course will include practical sessions on group control, rope techniques, personal rock climbing, equipment and environmental issues.
Before attending the training course candidates must have registered with the MLTE, have at least 12 months experience of rock climbing and be no less that 18 years of age.

MLTE Walking Group Leader Award Training

The Walking Group Leader Award is the basic award for leaders of hill walking groups.
The Walking Group Leader Award (WGL) is a nationally accredited award run by Mountain Leader Training England. The WGL is the basic award for leaders of hill walking groups in upland, moor, bog, fell, hill or down areas. In order to attend training course candidates must be registered with the Walking Group Leader scheme, have completed at least twenty hill walks and hold a valid First Aid qualification.
The training course is based on the WGL syllabus. There are theory sessions on weather, group leader responsibilities, risk assessment and dealing with emergencies as well as practical skills.
