Description: This 2 day course is intended for novice climbers who wish to experience rock climbing for the first time. During the course participants will be introduced to the basic skills and equipment required to climb, both indoors and outside.
Course members should have an average level of fitness and plenty of enthusiasm. All specialist equipment and clothing will be provided. A full kit list will also be sent to participants prior to the start of the course.
The first evening will include an introduction to the sport of climbing. The experienced course director will show inspiring photos of climbs both in South Wales and further a field. There may also be an opportunity on the first evening to climb on the centres purpose built bouldering wall, or 40ft climbing tower.
The first day will focus on basic rope work techniques so that participants can climb safely. It will also act as an introduction to the various equipment that is on the market, and give course members who are inspired to carry on climbing the chance to try various items before they commit to spending money.
Other items to be covered will include guide book interpretation and coaching on the best ways to move when climbing.
The second day will focus on building on the skills learnt during the first day of the course. There will be the opportunity to visit different crags, possibly of different rock types. Visiting an indoor wall where the skills learnt can be practised is also an option.
Safety issues will be addressed throughout the programme which will be led by experienced and qualified coaches.
