Description:
The Family Open Canoe Expedition will begin and end at Longtown Outdoor Education Centre. The fully equipped residential centre has excellent on-site facilities set in 15 acres of private grounds and is located between the eastern edge of the Black Mountains and the River Monnow. The Brecon Beacons, the Wye Valley, the Forest of Dean and the South Wales coast are within easy reach.

Course members should be aged 7+, and be able to swim. All specialist clothing and equipment including camping equipment will be provided.

Safety issues will be fully addressed throughout the programme which will be led by an experienced and qualified canoeing coach.

This weekend course is intended for families who are either new to open canoeing or have some previous paddling experience.

During the 2 day course participants will be introduced to the basic skills required to control open canoes and then have the opportunity to apply them whilst paddling down the picturesque River Wye or along the Monmouth canal system. Take in the outstanding scenery and local wildlife from a unique perspective and swim in the river. The expedition will include an overnight camp in a beautiful waterside camping spot.

Full equipment and accommodation provided. The cost for the course is £120 adults / £60 children 14 and under.
