The MIAS Mountain-bike Instructors' Award Scheme goes way beyond other courses that are available in the United Kingdom and has national NVS standard academic accreditations through the Awarding Body Consortium at Reading University. It is endorsed by the Association of British Cycling Coaches and the Cyclists Touring Club.
Furthermore the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority recognise MIAS.

LEVEL 1 & LEVEL 2 LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
The courses are particularly beneficial for those who wish to gain employment or work as independent operators within the travel industry. They are also very popular with teachers, youth leaders, scout leaders etc. who have benefited from a recognised qualification, from the N.V.Q. Awarding Body (A.B.C.)
The Level 1 qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of beginners in non-technical terrain (forest tracks, canal towpaths etc).
The Level 2 qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of beginners in non technical terrain and intermediate riders in technical (rocky /demanding terrain).
The Level 1 & Level 2 courses are run together. Candidates & the course director will decide after the initial assessment period which certification the individual candidates will undergo on the course, Level 1 or Level 2.
The course has national accreditation with: The Association of British Cycle Coaches (A.B.C.C.), Cyclist's Touring Club (C.T.C.) and is recognised by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).

The syllabus shown above is assessed to meet MIAS requirements by the following methods-
Candidates who wish to be assessed at Level 1 must be able to demonstrate basic off-road riding skills.
Candidates who wish to be assessed at Level 2 must be able to demonstrate strong off road riding skills including step drops (up to 1/2 metre), descending / braking in a controlled manner, effective climbing and pedaling techniques in rough / rocky terrain.
Total cost of Level 1 or 2 Training / assessment (2 full days) = £199 (including ABC Certificate and Log Book).
MIAS Cycle Maintenance course 1 day at Bryn Bettws or 2 half days at your venue (NVQ Level 1) £130.00.
