The BTEC National Diploma in Sport with the Sports Development & Fitness Pathway or Outdoor Activities. The combination of practical activities underpinned with theoretical study enhances the quality of learning, giving candidates a good mix of learning environments.

Course Content
The Outdoor Activities pathway will prepare you for a career in this fast expanding specialist area of the leisure industry.
Craven College has established an enviable reputation in this particular area with an equipment base, day centre and a residential centre. It also has validation from Governing Bodies to run specialist outdoor qualifications in climbing, hill walking, canoeing and kayaking as well as highly qualified and experienced staff.

The course will cover specific areas such as Personal Outdoor Skills (Land and Water Based), Leadership Skills (Land and Water Based), Expedition Skills, Alternative Outdoor Activities, Equipment, Environmental Studies and Working with Children. There will also be a period of work experience.

Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at C or above, preferably including Maths and English. GCSE PE would also be a distinct advantage. GNVQ Intermediate or BTEC First Diploma or equivalent. All students are required to
have an interview.

Career Progression
Students may go onto Higher Education on one of the HND or degree courses in Adventure Activities and Outdoor Education. From September 2006, students will be able to progress on to the Foundation degree in Adventure Activity Management at Craven College. We have established excellent career links with many companies based in the outdoors. Students may progress into one of these areas at junior or instructor level in either in the UK or abroad.
