Who is the course for:
For school leavers aged between 16 -19. The course is aimed at individuals who have a keen interest in outdoor education. The course is suitable for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the sports industry.
Entry Requirements:
You must have five GCSEs at grade C or above. It is beneficial if two of these grades are in Science, English, Maths or Physical Education. All potential students must attend a satisfactory interview and a four day introduction course. You must also demonstrate an appropriate level of sports performance. Alternatively you can progress from a BTEC First Diploma in Sport or an Intermediate GNVQ in Leisure and Tourism (distinction
required).
What will you do on the course:
The course is exciting, dynamic and challenging. You will study a variety of modules and will develop your academic knowledge, practical performance and social skills over the two years. Some of the modules covered include fitness testing, principles and practices in outdoor education, expedition skills and working with children.
Key skills are an essential part of the course and these will be developed through the various activities and assignments.
How do you study the course:
This is a full time course. Each module is assessed by assignments and practical work. The modules are taught by specialised staff and will involve lectures, practicals, presentations and research. Students are expected to study privately for approximately 8 - 10 hours per week. As an outdoor
education student, you are expected to be active and enthusiastic and have a genuine interest in developing your outdoor pursuits skills and working in the outdoors with young people.
What will you do afterwards:
Successful students can look forward to continuing their academic study by enrolling on a Foundation degree or degree in a outdoor pursuits related field. Students will also be able to seek employment in the outdoor education industry.
