Introduction to Adventurous Activity Leadership
Who is the course for:
This course is designed for young people (min age 16) who wish to gain the knowledge and practical outdoor pursuits skills required to be able to progress into the industry. This is a level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Sport (outdoor education), including level 1 NVQ in sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations and key skills (communication, ICT and application of number).
Entry Requirements:
You will need to obtain 2 C grades at GCSE level, however you must be able to produce evidence of an interest in outdoor pursuits activities and provide two satisfactory references. You will also need to attend a 4 day introduction course.
What will you do on the course:
The outdoor programme will concentrate on outdoor pursuits skills at a beginning / intermediate level in Kayaking, Canoeing, Climbing, Navigation and Camp craft. There will be several expeditions away from college in the UK, together with work experience at Duchy College assisting qualified instructors who provide adventurous activities for various school groups.
How do you study the course:
This course will consist of an average of three days a week outdoor pursuits instruction and 1 1/2 days class room based. Lectures will comprise of various topics relating to the outdoor pursuits / recreation and education industry. Key skills will be linked with outdoor pursuits and will include communication, IT and application ofnumber.
What will you do afterwards:
On successfully completing this course students can progress to any of the following: BTEC National in Sport (Outdoor Adventure) or Outdoor Instructor Training Programme (OITP). There are also opportunities to gain qualifications through National Governing Body awards, dependent on availability.

All prospective candidates will be required to complete a CRB check as you will be working with children at the College. |
