Challenge 8000 -
Sporting Ambassador
ALAN HINKES, UK'S TOP HIGH ALTITUDE
MOUNTAINEER, MADE A SPORTING AMBASSADOR
BY SPORT ENGLAND
Alan Hinkes, the UK's top high altitude
mountaineer, has been made a Sporting Ambassador
by Sport England, (formerly known as the
English Sports Council).
The Sporting Ambassador scheme from Sport
England is aimed at young people aged 4
to 18 and provides opportunities for successful
sportsmen and women to visit schools and
other youth organisations to inspire young
people about the benefits of physical activity
and a healthy lifestyle.

Alan will be asked to give motivational
talks to local schools, something which
he has already done extensively for a number
of years, hold question and answer sessions
about his achievements and assist with activities
which will help to promote a positive role
model for the young people.
The Sporting Ambassadors scheme is funded
by Sport England and is supported by the
Department for Education and Employment.
It is delivered locally through the regional
offices of Sport England in close association
with local education authority advisors
and advisory teachers for physical education.
"The Sporting Ambassador scheme is
an excellent way for young people to become
motivated and encouraged to participate
in sport," said Alan. " Exercise
is essential for health. I am very pleased
to have been appointed a Sporting Ambassador
and I hope that I can help to promote the
value of physical activity to young people
through my involvement with schools and
youth organisations."
