Friday 5th May 2000 - Kangchenjunga Base Camp

There's not a great deal to report today. The wind has been coming from 330 degrees (NW) for the past few days which has generally brought good weather with hot, sunny days (today was over 20C) and very little precipitation. However, the wind changed direction back to its more usual 270 degrees (W) this afternoon and the precipitation started very soon afterwards.

At 1200 James Raitt, Aleck Burrell, Larry Foden and Roddy McArthur reported that they had reached Camp 2 and intended to stay there tonight rather than return to Camp 1 as originally intended. They were obviously going better than they had anticipated. They intend to try and reach Camp 3 tomorrow and put up more tents.

The four Sherpas will go up to Camp 1 tomorrow and then move up to Camp 2 the following day to support James and Co whilst the remainder will stay in Base Camp building up strength for the forthcoming final push.

Today's picture features Dan Carroll again on the route between Camp 1 and Camp 2.
