PR and Media Apprentice (Level 4)

We work with media outlets to deliver inspiring stories about Scouting and how it develops skills for life in young people and adults across the UK. We’re looking for a super-motivated candidate with excellent communications skills to join our award-winning Media Relations Team.

As our Media Relations Apprentice you’ll help coordinate our media campaigns, work with journalists and be given the opportunity to develop in to a media relations professional. Based at Gilwell Park, Chingford, the team is passionate, creative and love what we do. We are always looking for inspiring stories and creative ways to showcase them.

We pride ourselves in providing excellent training and support. We don’t expect you to have experience, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual that has a desire to succeed.

Media Relations activities
The Media Relations Apprentice will be required to undertake (but not be restricted to) the following activities as part of their role.

Writing - Writing for the media, including, briefing documents and case studies)
Media liaison - Understanding how the media operates, dealing with day to day inquiries from the media, pitching stories to the media, creating media lists and monitoring press clippings
Deliver media campaigns – Supporting the team in creating new campaigns
Evaluate campaigns – Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of media campaigns and measuring their impact
Research & data analysis – Conducting research for the team and summarising finding
Events - Planning, organising and co-coordinating events, meeting the objectives of the brief.

Workload management
The media relations apprentice will also be required to demonstrate workload management by undertaking the following activities.
Time management - Planning, organising and prioritising your workload to ensure deadlines and objectives for both work activities and apprenticeship training are met
Meetings – Arranging internal and external meetings
Career development - Taking responsibility for personal learning and professional development
Working with people
The media relations apprentice will also be required to demonstrate the following in their ability to work with people.
Professional relationships – Developing professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, effective listening and verbal/written communication
Communicating with supervisors/mentors - Ensuring they are aware of work in progress and are briefed when any problems arise
Team building - Working with teams to achieve goals and promote a motivated work environment
Confidentiality – The team works with confidential information so an ability to maintain confidentiality is a must.
