Instructor (Job Description)
• Salary range: £18400 - £20,450 dependant on qualifications and experience. A qualifications and experience matrix will be used to work out final salary.
• Contracts are full time contracts with annualized hours between the start of February to November (options for winter extensions).
• Location: Lochgoilhead, Argyll, Scotland

About us.
We are a 150 bed residential centre run and operated by Scouts Scotland and part of the Scout adventures network. We run weekend and week summer camps for all sections of the scout association while running as an outdoor education centre working with school groups during term time. The centre has AALA recognition as well as being an RYA training centre and a DofE AAP. We offer a wide range of activities for everyone from beaver scouts through to adult leader training which allows us to offer a varied work pattern for our staff. We are passionate about the outdoors and introducing young people to the benefits of the outdoor environment. We utilise the spectacular local area to get young people into a range of environments which provide stunning learning aid while inspiring and provide a vehicle for outdoor learning.

• Accommodation is provided after £42 per week contribution

Job Role:
• Instructors will report to Activities Manager /Senior Instructor
• Lead sessions to operating procedures and group needs
• Assist booking in groups to the centre
• Perform maintenance and monthly equipment/PPE checks
• Ensure smooth running of evening entertainments
• Maintain high standards of staff accommodation and communal area’s
• Involvement in operation of centre shop
• Requirement to do overnight duty instructor on a rota system
• Preparation and facilitation of staff social events calendar
• Any other duties as requested by Centre Management to assist operation of centre

Person Specification

Must have 2 of the following as a minimum:
Dinghy Instructor
SPA (Assessed)
Mountain Leader (Assessed)
BCU UKCC Level 2 Paddlesports Coach (or equivalent)
UKCC Mountain bike MBLS level 2 (or equivalent)

At least 2 seasons experience of working within the outdoor industry
Experience of working with a variety of different groups
RPIOL equivalent

Excellent interpersonal skills
Good problem solving skills
Good resource management
The ability to review individuals and groups
Understands operating procedures and risk assessments

Powerboat Instructor (coastal)
Safety Boat (coastal)
Senior Dinghy Instructor
BCU Level Three Kayak/Canoe
UKCC Level 2 Kayak/Canoe Coach with moderate water endorsement
Bush craft Experience
John Muir Award Leader
Driving License/ D1+E
DofE assessor
APIOL equivalent
3 or more years experience of working within the outdoor industry
Evidence of working with large range of client groups
Experience of maintaining a range of equipment
Evidence of running NGB skills courses
Expedition experience
Experience of DofE leadership
Experience and knowledge of the scout association
Experience of working with CFE or education systems
