Chief Instructor

MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) is the nation’s largest maritime charity and the governing charity of the Sea Cadets, a civilian voluntary youth organisation comprising some 400 or so Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK. The Sea Cadets offer a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to foster good citizenship in the community.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Senior Instructor to deliver high quality training at our training facility in North West Area Sea Cadet Boating Station, based at the Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre. This is a modern, busy watersports centre located in a prime location near to the River Mersey Estuary, and delivers sailing, windsurfing, powerboating and paddlesport.

This position is a full time, permanent post. Hours of work each week will be variable and include weekend working, but will average approximately 44 hours.

In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of training, as directed by and in support of the Boat Station Manager.

You will be responsible for leading other members of the instructional staff, volunteers and trainees on a day to day basis, by running staff meetings, CPD and aiding instructors in their person development.

You will be experienced at delivering fun and safe learning to young people in the outdoors. Hold the RYA Senior Instructor qualification and have a minimum of one of the following instructor qualifications; RYA Start Windsurfing instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor with RYA Safety Boat or BCU Coach Awards. Knowledge of basic boat maintenance would be useful.

You will be motivated and passionate in driving the training centre forward and developing a high quality service.

You will be passionate about instructing and want to put your skills into practice in our setting and as part of our team.

The post can be demanding and working hours are as determined by the training programme, which will include evening and weekend working.
