Chief Instructor

MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) is the nation’s largest maritime charity and the governing charity of the Sea Cadets, a civilian voluntary youth organisation comprising some 400 or so Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK. The Sea Cadets offer a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to foster good citizenship in the community.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Senior Instructor to deliver high quality training at our training facility in London Area Sea Cadets, based at Royal Docks Adventure. This is a modern, busy watersports centre located in a prime location with access to the river Thames, and delivers dinghy sailing, paddlesport, rowing, powerboating and windsurfing.

This is position is full time, permanent post. Hours of work each week will be variable and include weekend working, and will average 44 hours per week.

In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of training, as directed by and in support of the Boat Station Manager.

You will be responsible for leading other members of the instructional staff, volunteers and trainees on a day to day basis, by running staff meetings, CPD and aiding instructors in their personal development.

You will be experienced at delivering safe, fun and challenging activities for young people in the outdoors. You will hold both the RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor qualification plus a minimum of one of the following instructor qualifications; RYA Powerboat Instructor, RYA Start Windsurfing instructor, BCU Coach Awards British Rowing Coach Awards of SCC Rowing Instructor. Knowledge of basic boat maintenance would be beneficial.

You will be motivated and passionate in driving the boat stations activity programme forward and maintaining a high quality of service.

You will be passionate about instructing and want to put your skills into practice in our setting and as part of our team.

The post can be demanding and working hours are as determined by the training programme, which will include evening and weekend working.
