Description: Sailing Master
Who are we:
We are a vibrant and growing charity delivering life changing nautical adventure and fun for young people through the Sea Cadets. The Sea Cadet Experience is based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. We aim to give young people nationwide the best possible head start in life by building life skills to help provide a brighter future. This is an exciting time for the charity and we need top talent like you to come aboard and help us achieve our goals and maximize our impact on our young people.
We are currently looking to appoint a Sailing Master for our square rigged brig TS ROYALIST from January 2018. The vessel is based in Gosport and entered service in 2015. TS ROYALIST mostly undertakes 6 day voyages around the UK and near continent with berths for 24 Cadets and up to 10 adult staff. There are occasional deployments further afield when the ship participates in the Tall Ships Races.
What we’re looking for:
The successful candidate should have the necessary experience with a minimum qualification of Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement – and square rig experience. You will also have the ability to lead and manage a team, display flexibility and dedication, have an innovative approach to training, and be able to work effectively with young people.
The successful applicant will be required to become/remain a uniformed member of the Sea Cadet Corps and to undertake an enhanced DBS check. As Sailing Master the post holder will be Second-in-Command and responsible to the Commanding Officer TS ROYALIST. It will be expected that the post holder will, on occasions, take Command of the Flagship in the absence of the permanent Commanding Officer.
There is a generous annual leave allowance and the salary for the role will be disclosed on application. Employees are eligible to join the employer’s voluntary contributory pension scheme (5% employee, 10% employer), and the Organisations Private Medical Insurance scheme.
