Prospects has been commissioned by the Cabinet Office to deliver National Citizen Service (NCS, www.ncsyes.co.uk) programmes in the South Gloucestershire, Stroud and Salisbury area.
The National Citizen Service Team Leader/Assistant will each be responsible for a cohort of 15 young people for two full residential weeks (Mon-Fri). Successful candidates will then supervise the group to plan and deliver a social action project based at a local community venue the following 2 weeks. You will be involved with a national initiative to shape young people and improve communities.
Each Team Leader/Assistant is contracted to undertake the following for the duration of their contract with Prospects and lead on:
A three day non-residential training programme for Staff Members
2 pre-residential sessions where you will meet your team of young people in the two weeks prior to departure (an evening session lasting approximately 2 hours)
Outdoor Adventure Residential - A 5 day (4 night) personal development residential
University Residential - A 5 day (4 night) skills development residential at a local University
Social Action Planning - A youth led week of social action project planning that will benefit the local community
Social Action Delivery - At least 30 hours of social action work
Graduation Event (an evening event); Take bookings and place on to internal computer systems
All meals and accommodation is provided for in this role on the two residentials.
We require 70 amazing people to support young people through 2 residential weeks followed by 2 full-time non-residential weeks. All candidates must be dynamic team-players, capable of motivating and inspiring young people.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The National Citizen Service (NCS) Team Leader/Assistant will be responsible for:
Lead a group of 15 young people, facilitating and delivering sessions to the young people.
Manage the behaviour of the group and take into account all Health and Safety implications throughout the project
Pastorally caring for the group
Engage and consult with young people and the local community regarding the delivery of community based projects meeting targets, goals and deadlines
Enhance the young people’s skills, confidence, personal and social development
Follow the Prospects NCS Handbook process, content and delivery outcomes
Ensure active participation from all young people in all phases of the NCS programme
Responsible for the guided reflection and learning of the young people throughout the programme
Supervise and support Mentors & Volunteers
Work closely with the NCS Core Team in ensuring all monitoring information (outputs & outcomes) is collected, collated and inputted for evaluation purposes and ensure records for young people are maintained and kept up to date.
Candidates must demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:
Ability to motivate and earn respect of a group of up to fifteen young people
Belief in young people and in helping them to take more active roles in their communities
Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment
Experience working directly with groups of young people aged 14-19
Experience of working in a residential youth environment
Experience working in partnership with schools, youth or community organisations

All staff will receive three days of non-residential training to deliver our NCS programme.
All staff who work on our NCS programme must have prior to starting work a returned satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and two satisfactory references regarding their suitability to work with young people. Prospects will assist the application for, and pay for the processing of, a new DBS for staff members where required. All new employees must be registered on the DBS Update service.

The pay for this contract role is £1210-£1350 per role (four weeks inclusive of the Training Days and the Graduation Event evening).
