What a difference a deck makes!

Sorry for the size of the images but we are so pleased that BB is looking like a boat again that we couldn't help ourselves. The large image at the top of the page shows the boat with her full compliment of new decking, fully planed and coated with primer.Keeping the old decking helped, they were used as templates for the new ones and meant that we did not have to use a tape measure once.

We have used 4mm marine ply although various different sources have stated that 6mm or even 8mm ply was used originally. 4mm seems to be robust enough but I am planning to add a small reinforcing piece of 4mm under each of the deck fittings just give a little more support.

The impression everyone gets when they look at the BB with her new decks is that she has suddenly grown! She does look better with the deck, more like a proper boat.

The primer we used was the Dulux high performance wood primer, two coats of Internationals Interdeck non slip deck paint was applied, we have gone for 'cream', it should set off the new mahogany coaming and toerail nicely. Interdeck paint needs to be left for four days in current temperatures to harden fully so we won't be clambering on the boat for while.
